OH MY GUNS – Dec. 2020 Background Check Numbers!

Honestly, I don’t know how anything is still in stock with the amount of guns and ammunition sold this year. It is absolutely staggering. The December NICS check numbers are in and we’re going to break it down after this.

The FBI has reported on background checks through the National Instant Check system since part way through November of 1998. Since then, we’ve seen some pretty big milestones. In November of 1999, there were more than 1 million background checks in a single month. The first time we broke 2 million was 13 years after that in November of 2012, which at the time was a really big deal. 2013 was considered a big year for the gun industry and there were just over 21 million background checks that year. That was the first year of Obama’s second presidential term. The first time we ever surpassed 3 million background checks in a single month…that was 2020. It seems that 2020 was not just the year that the pandemic changed the world, but it was also the strongest year ever for the gun industry.
Every month we’ve been covering exactly what that means and how many checks have gone through and this time is no different. The December 2020 background check numbers are in and I am very excited to share them with you.
Now for context, these are not a direct comparison to actual guns sold. Background checks are not a 1 to 1 ratio, some checks could be for multiple guns and not ever state requires a background check at the time of purchase. That being said, let’s get into the data.
A recap is the way we’ll kick it off. I also need to add that every single month this year has set a record. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. Starting off in January we had 2.7 million checks. February was 2.8 million. March was a BIG time spike due to Covid taking hold on the world and we had 3.7 million checks. Tapering back down to 2.9 in April, then just under 3.1 million in May. June was astonishingly high with 3.9 million, July at 3.6, August at 3.1, September 2.8, October came in at 3.3 million as the second wave of covid started and so did HEAVY campaigning for the presidential election. November ramped up to 3.6 million and December 2020 was the one that polished off the year with 3 million 937 thousand and 66 background checks. That puts it about 6 thousand higher than June 2020 and makes it the highest month ever recorded in US history AND it also crushed the 2019 number by a hair over 1 million. These numbers are absolutely staggering.
We’ve not done this before but I want to bring you through the yearly totals as well because I think it provides some really interesting context as to just how crazy this year has been.
The data we have from FBI starts part way through November of 98 and ends the year with just under 900 checks. Being that its a partial year, that particular data isn’t substantial for our purposes. Moving on from there, the year of the Columbine shooting, 1999, I was in 9th grade at the time. That year ended with 9.1 million. Considering we did almost 4 million in December 2020, that number seems kinda small right? It gets more interesting. 2000 landed at 8.5 million, 01 was 8.9, 02 was 8.4, 03 was 8.5, 04 was the sunset of the assault weapons ban and ended up with 8.7 million and this is where the numbers start climbing substantially. 05 was 8.9, we broke 10 million for the first time in 2006, 07 was 11.1 million, 08 was 12.7, 09 was the first year of Obama first term and things started to climb even more here with 14 million, 2010 was 14.4 million, 11 was 16.4, 2012 which was soaked in political craziness jumped to 19.6 million, 2013 we passed 20 million for the first time at 21.1 million, then 14 fell back to 21 million, 15 was 23.1, 16 was a big bump to 27.5 million, back down in 17 to 25.2, 18 was 26.1 million and 19 landed us at 28.3 million background checks. 2020 absolutely crushed all of those numbers. There were 39.7 million background checks performed in 2020. Nearly 40 million. That is 11.3 million more than 2019.
If you’ve seen these videos before you know the next step… we’re going to compare these background check numbers to populations. If we look at the December total of just shy of 4 million checks, we could arm HALF of New York City. We could arm EVERYONE in Los Angeles. We could almost arm everyone in Houston twice. We could arm everyone in Austin Texas 4 times over.
If we look at the yearly total of just shy of 40 million checks, we could arm every single person in Afghanistan… not sure if we would want to do that but we could…. We could also arm everyone in Romania twice and have guns left over. We could almost Arm everyone in Sweden 4 times. We could arm Liberia 8 times over and Slovenia 20 times over. And just for fun, we could almost arm every single person in my county here in PA with 80 guns each. THAT would be amazing haha.
No matter how you slice it, this year has been insane. The entire world economy brought to its knees, science pushed to do things that were never thought possible and governments around the world grabbing up more power than ever before. And no matter how you look at it 40 million background checks makes a statement as well.
I want to know what you guys think of this. In the comment section below, tell me what the number one reason people bought guns this year. I want to hear your thoughts for sure.

How Many Guns Did Americans Buy In November 2020? – The Fight For Gun Rights!

ITS TIME! WE DID IT AGAIN! GUYS WE ARE THE BEST EVER AT BUYING GUNS. WE ARE ABSOLUTELY BAR NONE THE BEST AT IT. The FBI background check numbers for November are in and we are gonna break them down, after … wait you know what this is going to be a short video, so instead of putting a promo here, just do me a favor and share this with some of your friends and family to let them know whats up. Whether you’re watching on our Facebook page, YouTube channel, Instagram page or even our website, theguncollective.com, just go ahead and share it with some folks. I want as many people as possible to see these numbers.

Welcome back to the gun collective, my name is Jon Patton and you are watching the fight for gun rights. Every month the FBI releases the number of background checks they performed and the November numbers are in. Before we go any farther, its important to note that these are not a 1 to 1 representation of gun sales because not every background check is for guns and some background checks are for multiple guns bought at the same time. Also some states don’t use this system. Now, we’ve been doing this for almost the entire year so let’s go ahead and recap shall we? In January, there were 2.7 million background checks. February had 2.8 million, March is where COVID panic buying started with 3.7 million, then April hit 2.9 mil, May 3.1, June, the highest in recorded history at 3.9 million, then July with 3.6 million, August 3.1, September 2.9 mil, October on the rise with 3.3 million and now, we are climbing back up with November coming in at a staggering 3.6 million background checks. ALL of these months, every single one of them is the highest for that month ever. Not only that but we are now at a yearly total of 35.7 million background checks. HOLY crap you guys. At this point, we have surpassed the 2019 year total by over 7 million.
Can I get a like on this video for the awesome charts our editor Izzy put together?
Now, as we do, its time to compare these numbers and give them some context. If we look at the monthly total for November 2020, assuming thats close to the number of guns sold, we could arm everyone in Dallas Texas, twice. We could arm everyone in Columbus ohio 4 times over. We could arm Baltimore 6 times over. We could arm everyone in the country of Estonia twice or We could arm everyone in Luxembourg 6 times.
If we look at the yearly total of 35.7 million, we could almost arm everyone in Morocco. We could definitely arm everyone in Saudi Arabia. We could arm Ecuador twice, everyone in Serbia 4 times with some left over or everyone in Croatia 8 times with some left over. No matter how you slice this pie, the numbers are incredible.
Now, the question that comes up the most on these videos is what does this mean for gun owners? Well its very hard to say with the looming threat of democratic control in the Government. What I do know is that ammo companies better turn up the heat and crank even harder so we can all keep shooting.
I want to know what you guys think of all this. Do these numbers really matter in the grand scheme? Will this help us at the polls next time around with so many new gun owners coming into the fold? Did you buy a new gun and become part of these numbers? Sound off in the comments below and lets talk about it.
And that is it for this video guys. After you click the like button, be sure to hit the secret affiliate link down in the description, that would be a massive help for us and of course don’t forget to get subscribed for more gun news every week and as always, thank you all for watching, we’ll see you soon!

HOW MANY GUNS EXIST IN THE U.S.A.? – The Fight For Gun Rights!

You know, there is a ton of speculation about how many guns actually exist in the United States. Back in the day, guns didn’t have to have a serial number… then once that changed, the records weren’t necessarily kept in a way that was simple to track nationwide… but I promise you there are A LOT of guns. I’d be willing to bet that there might even be more guns than people. If only someone took the time to gather up info about how many guns were produced and put them out publicly… oh wait, that did happen. The NSSF recently published a highlight list from some data they’ve collected and we are gonna wade through it, after this.
Welcome back to the gun collective, my name is Jon Patton and you are watching the fight for gun rights. The national shooting sports foundation or NSSF has done a lot for the gun industry over the years and things like this report are a wonderful way to allow me to share that with the world.
For context, this report compiles the most up to date info from the ATF and ITC. I’m just gonna be throwing out facts for you to soak up. The info takes time to compile so some of the stats don’t show exactly what’s going on but we can extrapolate. Ok let’s go.
In 2018, 11.4 million total firearms were produced or imported in the US. This does not include the exported guns. What’s hilarious about that is based on what we know about 2020 sales of guns, we’ve sold that number about 3 times over. We did a video on that if you want to learn more.
Also in 2018, 48 percent, nearly half, of all rifles produced or imported, were “modern sporting rifles” or as I like to call them, AR15’s. Now consider that things have ramped up even more. THAT is a shitload of AR’s.
Since the year 1990, there are an estimated 19.8, almost 20 million AR’s in circulation. For reference, that is enough to give everyone in Kansas City Missouri almost 40 rifles each.
If we are talking about 2019, well the current estimate, which is being updated is that 6 million guns were produced in the US, that doesn’t include imported guns which is a lot, and roughly 3.6 million of those were handguns while 480 thousand were shotguns and nearly 2 million were rifles.
If we look at the estimated imported guns in 2019, that comes to about 3.3 million, of which, 2.3 million were handguns. THAT IS BONKERS. About 301 thousand were rifles and 678 thousand were shotguns.
From 1991 to 2019, nearly 214 MILLION guns have been made available to the US market. For reference, there are an estimated 330 million people in the US. If my math is correct, that is enough guns to arm almost every adult in the US right now. And remember thats only between 1991 and 2019, the ATF reports indicate that there are about 434 million guns in civilian possession here in the US. WE CAN ARM THE KIDS TOO! HAHAHA. Or we could arm my immediate family over with over 72 million guns each!
Now if we break things down in a slightly different way, there are approximately 71.2 million pistol mags capable of holding more than 10 rounds and about 79.2 million capable of holding more than 30 rounds. Was that a bald eagle I just heard? How can my heart contain so much freedom without bursting? Also shoutout to all the people in ban states that can’t have standard capacity magazines.
To round us out, firearm and ammunition manufacturing account for about 12000 employees producing over 3.9 billion dollars in goods shipped and approximately 8.7 billion rounds of ammo were produced… in 2018. That was 2 years ago. You know what, lets have some fun here. What caliber or gauge do you think represents the largest chunk of that ammo and how much revenue do you think was generated so far in 2020’s epic year for the gun industry?
My heart says 9mm was a lot of it, but 22 long rifle is substantial in numbers too. And I’m betting double digit billions this year. I want to know your thoughts down in the comment section.
And guys, that is it for this video. SHADY GUN INDUSTRY DEALS – TGC News!

SECRET LINK: https://bit.ly/3jRhs6K

This week on TGC News, New guns from Savage, Sig and Henry, Kimber is moving, Full Conceal is bankrupt, Remington under investigation and SHOT is canceled!

Welcome back to another episode of TGC News, the only gun news show that covers things you actually care about, my name is Jon Patton.
We have a bunch of stuff to cover this week, so let’s get into it.
First up, Savage has release 3 new shotguns under their Stevens brand. For those unaware, the Stevens line has always been on the more affordable end of things. Essentially we have 3 different configurations of the Stevens 320 pump action with a thumbhole stock. They fall under 3 different types. The Security model with a bead front sight or the security model with ghost ring sights. Both of those have an 18.5 inch barrel, 3 inch chamber, 5 round capacity, and of course, the goofy looking thumbhole stock. There’s also the turkey version which has a 22 inch vent rib barrel with fiber optic sights, 3 inch chamber, extended extra full turkey choke and a OD green version of the same furniture.
I suspect the reason for the thumbhole on both of these models is 2 fold. Its good for folks that prefer a pistol grip AND at the same time it potentially works in places where pistol grips arent okay. Thats speculation of course but the real important thing here is the value. The MSRP on the security models is 275 for the bead sight and 305 for the ghost rings. The turkey model lands at 323 MSRP. Now I dunno about you but a decent budget shotgun sounds appetizing to me. What do you guys think? Shotguns are not always the best home defense solution but it could be a cheap option to have around. Not only that but hunting with a pump gun has a special level of fun added to it right? Sound off in the comments and lets talk about it!
And we have 3 more new guns so I’m gonna blast through these quickly. Sauer the JP & Sohn kind, not to be confused with Sig Sauer, has release a new bolt action under their S404 line call the Synchro XTC line up in green camo. These are unique because they come with a super fancy carbon fiber stock. This particular one comes with a green camo that appears as though it might be part of the carbon weave which is rad. But along with the ultra fancy stock and barreled action comes a hefty price tag. This one goes for 8199 bucks.
Next up, Sig Sauer has released another new custom shop series. Also shout out to sig for learning how to get worse in video quality over the last video pistol release videos they’ve done. Anyway the new custom shop guns are a limited edition release of the old equinox line up. Long story short, the 226 and 229 versions of the gun have been coated black and had the side slabs machined for a nice 2 tone look and then all the small parts like the slide release, decocker and trigger have all been nickel plated. The grip is a G10 variant which replaces the really nice wood grip on the old model. This was done to improve grip. It also comes with 2 mags, their Xray 3 day/night sights, the short reset trigger and a fancy locking case. And as per usual, they don’t list a price anywhere so because I’m annoyed at them for that, this gun is set to retail at 50 billion dollars. The most expensive handgun ever made. LOL how about that Sig?
Also in new gun news is a really cool one from Henry. Its called the New Original BT Henry 200th anniversary edition. The inventor of the Henry lever action, Benjamin Tyler Henry would be turning 200 in 2021 and this is a commemorative gun for that. Its got a 24.5 inch octagonal barrel thats got a polished blued finish, a fancy walnut stock and of course this really nice engraving on the sides of the receiver. The guns will be chambered in 44-40 WCF and there will only be 200 made. That being said, there is a price to go with them of 4289 dollars and I suspect that will only go up over time.
I’m curious to know what you guys think of collector guns like this. Do they get you pumped or do you just pass them by because of the price? Sound off below so I can see what you guys are thinking on this one!

It’s time now for a mountain of gun industry or gundustry news! You know what, we’ve never had enough industry news to do this but izzy fire it up. Its rapid fire time. Let’s kick it off with some positivity. Ruger has released their Q3 earnings report and its a doozy. Sales came in at 145.7 million which compared to last year’s 95 million is a 53 percent increase! That is flat out HUGE. Looking at their yearly total thus far, it was 399.6 million versus 2019’s 305.4 million. A 23.5 percent jump over last year. Outstanding news for Ruger for sure.
Now, let’s go the complete opposite direction. Remington is BACK in the news. It seems the split of all the brands didn’t go as cleanly as possible. According to a recent article on TheTruthAboutGuns, sources close to the deal say that Remingtons CEO Ken D’Arcy was behind the company called Roundhill Group that bought Remingtons firearm business. If you remember back to when we covered that story originally, I couldn’t find anything on that company at all besides this guy named Jeff Edwards being tied to it. Well apparently that was just a front and Darcy was behind it the entire time. Seems kind of shady to me to purchase the company that you helped run into the ground as a way to escape bankruptcy but I’m not a financial expert and that may be a thing thats totally fine. Not only that but apparently when Remington decided to shut down the Ilion new york plant, they also decided to deny pensions, cut off health care and deny severance pay EVEN THOUGH that was contractually obligated. That being said, the national labor relations board is now involved and there is said to be an investigation coming. Shady stuff abound and we will keep an eye on this as it moves forward.
Moving right along, everyones favorie folding Glock company Full Conceal has announced that they plan to make a folding version of the barret m82A1. LOL just kidding their bankrupt. During the highest gun sales in the history of everything, they managed to go bankrupt. Speaks volumes to the validity of a product that makes no sense.
Also in industry news, Kimber is moving from New York state, to a place called Troy Alabama. Its really nice to see gun companies pulling out of anti gun places.
And last but definitely not least, SHOT show is canceled! Its as if they watched TGC news last week and were inspired to make the call. Long story short, they cited COVID restrictions for the reasoning behind the decision. I know this had to be a HUGE decision to make with so many people and moving pieces involved but the show has been rescheduled for 2022. Some folks are calling them sissies or cowards for canceling I want those people to know that the NSSF had zero choice in the matter and that you need to be mad at the government of nevada if you want to be upset.
That being said, If you are a brand that was planning to release something new during that time, you might be scrambling right now, CALL ME. Seriously. We have an alternate plan that I know you will like. Whew, that was a ton to cover, let’s take a breath.

It’s time for more Friendly Fire, the segment where I answer questions from you guys! This time our questions are coming from our loyal subscribestar crew! Hit the link in the description to check that out. First, Rusty In Oregon says should I efile to SBR all my guns with pistol braces just to make the whole argument go away? ABSOLUTELY NOT. That is exactly what they want. Your money and your compliance with illegal regulatory behavior. FUCK that. Stand your ground. Ghost says do you think current ammo prices will be the new normal is democrats win the election? Its hard to say for sure but prices certainly will NOT go down until the demand slides back for a while. And with the real threats that these politicians pose to the second, I don’t see demand falling down ever. Someone needs to find out if they all have stock in gun companies and just want the boost LOL. Paul Ehlen says if the rioting and looting doesnt stop will militias step in and squelch the unrest? I think that’s a dangerous proposition and is likely to be seen as an insurrection rather than an attempt for peace. I think its more likely the national guard will step in but at this rate I just expect everything to be burnt to the ground by spring.
My friendly fire question to you guys this week is one i’m stealing from William Moonan, Do you think the cancelation of SHOT show is going to be negative, positive or have no effect on the gun industry? I always answer questions like this, its your turn! This will be fun. Drop your thoughts in the comments below and If you want to ask a friendly fire question, jump over to Subscribestar and support us directly on there!

SB Tactical Stands with Q, LLC Against ATF Honey Badger Ruling

Q Honey Badger Pistol

From SB Tactical:

SB Tactical, in conjunction with the Firearms Regulatory Accountability Coalition, Inc., (FRAC), and the National Rifle Association, stands in solidarity with Q, LLC. and is disappointed by the recent ATF actions in classifying their Honey Badger pistol as a short-barreled rifle. This classification is based on a seemingly arbitrary set of criteria and promises to create unnecessary confusion and anxiety amongst millions of legal gun owners and the industry as a whole.

The ATF is saying, in part, that they will not evaluate an accessory as a stand-alone product, but that the characteristics of the entire firearm influence their decision. Characteristics such as optics chosen, magazine capacity, how the gun is marketed, or length of pull will “holistically” determine a firearm’s NFA classification. Moreover, the ATF has, to date, refused to clarify or state what characteristics define a Pistol Stabilizing Brace. They have stated that “they will know it when they see it”.

This arbitrary approach is creating confusion and uncertainty for millions of law-abiding citizens, manufacturers, retailers, and wholesalers. SB Tactical is the inventor of the Pistol Stabilizing Brace and is deeply committed to our customers, the Second Amendment, and the rule of law. The ATF’s approach is unfair and unlawful.

GET YOURSELF A PISTOL BRACE HERE: https://bit.ly/34zvaFA

SB Tactical will, undoubtedly and unwaveringly, continue to support Q, LLC. We are tirelessly working with congressional leadership, the White House, and the Department of Justice to ensure that legal gun owners’ rights and the rights of manufacturers are not in jeopardy. It is our hope that the ATF’s latest policy interpretations, politically motivated or not, are corrected and that the confusion created can be reversed.

It is not too late to make your voice heard. We strongly urge you to contact the Department of Justice and demand they take swift action to stop and reverse ATF’s efforts to issue arbitrary and capricious decisions affecting millions of legal gun owners.

Additionally, we encourage you to reach out to the White House and ask President Trump to rollback ATF’s agenda:

  • White House Comment Line:

Residents from the following states and districts should reach out to their congressional representatives to let them know what they think of ATF’s actions:

  • Kentucky – Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) – https://www.mcconnell.senate.gov/public/
  • Alabama – Sen. Richard Shelby (R) – Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations and oversees funding of DOJ/ATF. https://www.shelby.senate.gov/public/
  • Kansas – Sen. Jerry Moran (R) – Chairman of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) which is responsible for funding the ATF.
  • South Carolina – Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) – Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is responsible for ATF oversight.
  • Ohio 4th District – Congressman Jim Jordan (R) – Ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee which has jurisdiction over 2nd amendment issues. https://jordan.house.gov/
  • If you’re not from one these States, you can find your representative’s contact information here: https://www.contactingcongress.org/
